Contraception services
Many of the doctors, nurses and health advisors at the GU Medicine clinic are trained to provide advice about and prescribe some methods of contraception, including:
- Emergency contraception
- Oral contraceptive pill
- Contraceptive patch
- Contraceptive injection
For coils, the implant and other methods, we suggest you visit your nearest Contraceptive and Sexual Health (CASH) clinic or GP. Formerly known as family planning clinics, CASH clinics provide:
- Contraception
- Emergency hormonal contraception (EHC)
- Pregnancy tests
- Help and advice about unplanned pregnancy
- Referral for termination of pregnancy
- Help and advice about sexual problems
- Cervical smear tests
Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC)
If you've had unprotected sex, a condom accident, or forgotten your contraceptive pills you can get an emergency pill (EHC) within 72 hours.
If you choose to have a coil fitted, you can have this done up to 5 days after having unprotected sex.
You can get EHC free from GUM clinics, CASH clinics, school health nurses or your GP. EHC is free for under 18s at many pharmacies (there is a charge to over 18s).
CASH clinics
CASH clinics are open to everyone - you don't have to be referred by a nurse, or a doctor. People of all ages are welcome.
